The Challenge

Our client was considering investing in a manufacturer of energy saving controls for heating, lighting and ventilation. Its products and solutions are used globally in commercial, public sector and domestic environments.

The business was seeking investment to support its strategy to consolidate its strong position in the UK market while becoming a leading international player by growing its portfolio of software and hardware products, and by further developing international distribution channels. We conducted commercial due diligence and an international market study to support our client with its investment decision.

The Approach

Our work included:

  • Modelling forecast revenues, drawing on our internally-developed international market model for lighting controls.
  • Undertaking research on competitive differentiation and referencing the business with architects, lighting OEMs and contractors.
  • Conducting an international research programme which included working closely with the business’ main European distributor.

The Result

Our client invested in the business which has since continued its R&D programme of software and hardware product development to support growth into new markets. Export sales are running ahead of plan. We continue to support the business in the development of its strategy.
